For yesterdays smart goal I had to tighten the steering and then I had to test it to see if it worked, which infact was very fun and I did not hurt myself, thankfully. I did have fun for the testing of the steering, but I did not have a lot of fun tightening the steering because the screwdriver kept slipping and the wrench kept loosening and it got really annoying, and I got really frustrated. I did end up tightening it enough, and I did not tighten it too much. I did end up achieving my goal because I tightened the steering and I did successfully test the steering without hurting myself. I achieved my goal because I got all the supplies for what I needed to do and I did get safety gear for the ride down the hill that I chose. Things that went well was that I did not hurt myself like I have said multiple times and I got it done in a good amount of time and I chose a safe hill to ride it down. The things that did not go well was that I did have the screwdriver slip a lot which was VERY ANNOYING. And I had two cars drive down the hill that I was testing on. Which scared me because they sped by me. And for tonight that will be all. Goodnight!!!!!!!!!
This blog is for the work that I did on Sunday. On Sunday I worked on getting the chain to hook up and I had to weld the front end, it was so much fun. At first I had some trouble getting the chain to stay together whilst I had been getting the rivet extractor to put the rivet back in, and then the rivet went in on an angle which made it sooo much "easier". And from then on it was just welding the front end of the kart and testing the kart, which was fun because I almost fell off. And then after I tested it we made some change to the kart and then we went home. We are not fully done yet but we are almost done.
For this blog it will be on the work that I did on Tuesday and not on Wednesday because my dad was not able to help me work, because I had a basketball game. So here we go... Yesterday (remember this was on Tuesday not Wednesday) me and my dad decided to go out to the bike shop that my dad and my uncle built (I would of helped them but I was sick) and choose a bike that my brother never used anymore, so we could grind the bottom bracket off of the bike. So it took about five minutes to choose which bike we would grind the bottom bracket off of. So right away we looked at it so we could se if it was ok to use, and after a minute or two we found that it was ok. So after we got the tools to do it we found that we forgot to do something, we forgot to take off the pedals (Haha. What thats not funny? oh ok it was a terrible joke). So I had to get the right size wrench to take the pedal off, it took about two minutes to do, but I got it done. when we got that done we took everything out of the bracket and then I started grinding and then I noticed that I forgot gloves, and man did that ever hurt. I ended getting really angry at the grinder because it kept stopping because it had low battery.
So we had to change the battery. And after we changed the battery it was smooth grinding from then. And after that we had to eat dinner. By the way the picture up top is a picture of me un-tightening
Hey boys an girls, I finally found a way to get the pictures and videos onto a blog and here they are. There is a picture of me holding the bottom bracket, and there are videos of me grinding the bottom bracket and a video of me undoing the nut so I could take the pedal krank off. And that is it, have a good rest of tge day!!!
Hey guys and girls here is a photo of me working on my Genius Hour project, I had some videos and unfortunately they did not process. This picture is of me taking the big nut off of the bottom bracket of my old bike. Sorry if it is a little bit blurry. Enjoy the rest of the day and have fun, goodbye!!!
The WORLD is a crazy place, with things that are left unanswered. That is not good enough for me. I want to learn how to get EPIC air off of short jumps. I want to learn how to eat a 20-pound hamburger without throwing up half way through it. I want to learn how to play guitar and drums. I want learn how to build an empire over BMX racing. I want to learn why there are no monkeys launched in to space. I want to learn how to make a touch screen phone. I want to learn how to make a bamboo bike. I want to learn how to write a 2500 word essay in 25 minutes. I want to learn how the human brain works. I want to learn how to make a movie with an old fashion camera.
I have failed to complete my smart goal for this weeks Genius Hour. I failed to complete this because of my time management and the fact that I was talking a little too much. But it was not all a disaster (I said disaster to make it sound more dramatic). because for one, I did find a nice quiet room to make my measurements, and I found a cool and great new technique to help people measure things (like wood). And after all the confidence I gained I think that measuring things , like wood, will be easier to do next. time I do something like what I did today. But when good things happen, bad things too, (write in the comment if that was a metaphor because I'm not sure if it is) a couple bad things that happened was my time management (like I mentioned early), another thing was that I talked way to much, and the final thing that went wrong was that I had got the wood wet and so the lines were very faint so I had to go over the lines more than if it weren't wet so I could make the lines darker.Other the faults I did do really well, I got the measurements and at least I don't have to do the measurements anymore so that is out of the way.
Well goodbye and have a great day, have fun,and I love your faces.
Based on a true story
Yesterday I phoned my dad and I said "Dad I need some materials for my Genius Hour project as soon as possible" and he said " Ok I'll try to get some materials for you as soon as possible". Yes it does sound fake but it was actually what we said. And after I said "Ok bye" and then he said goodbye, and then we hung up. So at about 5:30, he phones and says "Dakota go down stairs and get some shoes on" and I say ok wondering what he is doing. And so I get my shoes on and go down stairs, and I say "Ok what would you like" and he says "Follow me I've got something to show you, so he brings me out to his work van and to show me what he got he opens up the back of the truck and says "Look what I got for your project" I looked in the van and I almost cried because of what he got for my project, after he explained what he got.
He got his boss to weld me a steering wheel for the go-kart, so I can steer (obviously).
The next thing he got me was a thin metal pole for the attaching the steering wheel to the axle. And the last thing that he got was by far the coolest, he went to the car scrap ward and got the mechanical part that makes the windshield wipers move. We are going to take the thing apart so we can make the axle for the front wheels. Goodbye and have a great day
Yesterday when we did Genius Hour I went on this magical thing called the internet and I looked up where to get sheet metal and I got nothing, I found absolutely nothing!!! Ya, I wasn't too happy about that, but fortunately my dad should where to get sheet metal. But I did find out where to get metal pipe... Home Depot. Hopefully it isn't too expensive. And if I can't find sheet metal I know where to get good wood... Also Home Depot. All I did yesterday was trying to find where to got sheet metal and metal pipe. I found pipe easily and wood, even though I need metal for my project. Goodbye for today, have an awesome day. G
For my genius hour project I will be making a pedal powered go-cart with only three wheels. It will be made out of metal and will have a role cage, a cooler and a cup holder with straws coming from the drink (ya its pretty awesome). I chose this project because I am a kinaesthetic learner and I love to build things, and it would be a good way of transportation. My final project will be a metal go-cart with pedals and three wheels, (and I might put in a stereo) and it will be able to go on grass and and road. I will hope to learn how to weld and how to hook up a steering wheel
